D-Day beaches

By taking the road along the coast, you can visit the D-Day beaches of WWII:

  • Omaha Beach and its memoriall. At the Pointe de Hoc, west from Omaha Beach, you'll find the cliffs that were climbed by the American soldiers to face the German defense.
  • Sword Beach
  • Juno Beach
  • Gold Beach. The remains of the floating harbour Mulberry, built by the allies, can still be observed.

And a little further on Utah Beach.

On your way, you'll also find several cemetaries reminding you the great number of soldiers who died for liberty.

Behind the beaches, the bunkers of the German army can still be found.

The area counts a great number of museums and memorials dedicated to this historical period.
